Algeria, January 2011, the price of sugar, which represents 30% of Algeria's total food imports in the month of January 2010, is continually on the rise. Out of a total of 4500 DA of food sells, ie one kg per day... the citizen spends some 54000 DA on purchasing sugar for one year.... . The staggering increase, is not due to a change in the quantity purchased but due to the price of sugar which has risen by 112% between 2008 and 2009. Algerian imports of all other types of food are down (-12.27%), in particular cereal imports which recorded a drop of 48%, passing from 297 to 153 million dollars...but the contradiction is that the rate of buying sugar has also increased!!! really strange, isn't it?
